Watch hill summer cottage
This shingle style home, built in 1900 and largely untouched for the next century, was renovated to accommodate the homeowner’s desire to maintain the authentic feel of a New England summer cottage. In addition to a new kitchen and bathrooms, a screened in porch and exterior stone patio were added to take advantage of the once ignored west facing view out over Little Narragansett Bay.

“The guiding principle was that all spaces, be they remodeled or new, look and feel as though they were part of the original house. “Our design goal was to make it feel like no architect had been there,” McBride says. “No trace of ego or individual; just a reiteration of the original spirit.”
